The best opportunities often move quickly.
One trend we continue to see at Evolve is the pace at which strong opportunities can move — particularly when employers identify high-calibre talent.
It’s not unusual for candidates to receive interview requests within days of application, especially across specialist Pharmaceutical, MedTech and Healthcare roles. Yet one of the biggest challenges we encounter is candidates feeling underprepared because they weren’t actively searching when the opportunity came along.
Our advice? Stay “career ready,” even when you’re settled in a role.
We recommend keeping your CV updated regularly with recent achievements, project involvement, product launches, service improvements, stakeholder successes, commercial results, or additional qualifications. Too often, candidates leave updates until they need them and valuable examples get forgotten.
We also encourage candidates to keep a shortlist of interview examples prepared. Think about situations where you have:
Delivered measurable outcomes
Influenced stakeholders or customers
Managed challenges or change
Exceeded expectations or targets
Improved services or relationships
At Evolve, we often see confidence increase significantly when candidates have already reflected on these examples before interview stage.
Practical preparation also makes a difference. Keeping LinkedIn updated, reconnecting with potential referees, and having a clear understanding of your salary expectations and career priorities can all help when opportunities arise unexpectedly.
You may not be actively searching today - but being prepared means you’re ready when the right role finds you.
